When the Waters Rise: Praying for the Girls at Camp Mystic

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you.” – Isaiah 43:2

Today, my heart is heavy with sorrow and full of prayer. I woke up thinking about the flash floods in Texas, but more than that, I woke up thinking about little girls who are still missing.

They were at Camp Mystic, a Christian camp for girls. A place meant to be full of joy and safety. A place where they likely sang songs about Jesus, braided each other’s hair, and giggled under the stars. A place where memories are made and friendships form that last for life.

And now, this.

As I sit quietly with my coffee, I can’t stop picturing their faces, even though I don’t know them. I keep thinking about the parents who sent their daughters off for a summer of joy and are now holding their breath, clinging to hope with trembling hands. There are no words strong enough for that kind of fear.

So I turn to prayer.

I pray for rescue. A real miracle. The kind that leaves us speechless and on our knees in gratitude. I pray for protection and wisdom for every search and rescue worker out there, combing through floodwaters and debris. I pray for the counselors and campers who witnessed it and are carrying more than their hearts were ever meant to hold.

And I pray for peace. Not the kind the world offers, but the kind only Jesus gives. The kind that does not make sense but meets us right where we are.

Lord, be near.

It’s hard to understand why things like this happen, especially in places that are meant to be sacred and good. But even now, even in the grief and uncertainty, I believe God is with them. With every heartbroken mother. With every tearful sister. With every girl that was safe or rescued, unsure of what to feel or how to process what has happened.

He is not far away. He is not unaware. He sees. He knows. And He grieves with us.

If you are reading this today, please take a moment and pray with me. Pray for those girls. Pray for their families. Pray for Camp Mystic, and for every young heart aching in this moment.

While we pray for rescue, we also pray for peace. Because both are miracles.

In Prayer,

Karen

I give thanks every day for the provision God has given us through Jesus Christ, and for the incredible gift Jesus gave in making a way for us to stand before the Throne of God through His redeeming sacrifice.
